ISLAMABAD: Senate Chairman Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani on Saturday emphasised the significance of the upcoming Inter-Parliamentary Speakers’ Conference (ISC), calling it a historic milestone for Pakistan’s parliamentary diplomacy. Scheduled for November 11-12 in Islamabad, the event will focus on “Peace, security, and development” and will host 174 international delegates, including ten speakers of parliaments, fifteen deputy speakers, thirty-seven MPs, and representatives from multilateral organisations.

Mr Gilani, the founding chairman of the ISC, highlighted that two former presidents will also attend, reflecting Pakistan’s growing stature in international diplomacy. He described the conference as more than a Senate initiative, framing it as a collective national endeavour showcasing Pakistan’s commitment to dialogue and cooperation on the global stage.
He called on all senators to act as ambassadors of Pakistan’s values, stressing that the conference should go beyond participation and demonstrate the nation’s resolve to foster international understanding. He also acknowledged support from top leadership, including President Asif Ali Zardari, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, for the successful organisation of the event.

The chairman reaffirmed that the conference would serve as a beacon of hope and collaboration, with the potential to leave a lasting impact on regional and global diplomacy. “Together, we can make this event a defining moment in strengthening Pakistan’s role as a champion of peace, dialogue and development,” he said.
