Global maritime leaders gather in Karachi to boost blue economy

Published on: November 2, 2025 4:43 PM

The Pakistan International Maritime Conference opened at the Karachi Expo Centre, marking a major step toward strengthening Pakistan’s maritime industry and expanding its blue economy. The grand event brought together leading global maritime stakeholders, policymakers, and investors to explore Pakistan’s vast coastal and oceanic potential. The conference aims to highlight investment opportunities in shipbuilding, port development, marine logistics, and renewable ocean resources. The initiative reflects Pakistan’s growing ambition to become a key regional hub for maritime trade and industry.

Vice Admiral Faisal Abbasi, while addressing the inaugural ceremony, stated that the purpose of hosting this international conference is to promote sustainable use of marine resources and attract global investment. He emphasized that Pakistan’s coastline offers significant potential for economic development, fisheries, tourism, and offshore energy. The vice admiral said that the event demonstrates Pakistan’s readiness to collaborate with international partners for long-term maritime growth. He noted that advancing the blue economy could play a crucial role in the country’s future economic stability.

Furthermore, Vice Admiral Abbasi revealed that 103 international delegations from 44 countries are participating in the event, signaling global confidence in Pakistan’s maritime capabilities. This level of international participation highlights the increasing recognition of Pakistan’s strategic location along vital trade routes. He added that such large-scale engagement would strengthen bilateral cooperation and open new avenues for technology transfer and capacity building. The presence of high-level representatives reflects strong interest in Pakistan’s maritime infrastructure and industrial potential.

The conference also witnessed the signing of agreements valued at over $500 million, with 90 percent of them already finalized during the event. These agreements cover collaborations in ship repair, port modernization, ocean research, and renewable marine energy projects. Officials stated that these partnerships will significantly boost Pakistan’s economic prospects while creating new jobs and expanding maritime expertise. The success of these deals underscores the conference’s effectiveness as a platform for serious industrial cooperation and sustainable development.
