KARACHI – Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Emir Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman has lashed out at the Sindh government, blaming it for Karachi’s deteriorating infrastructure and vowing to “liberate the city from corruption and land grabbing.”
Speaking at a ceremony on Sunday, Naeem said that despite limited resources, JI’s elected representatives were working tirelessly for the city’s residents. “Karachi’s roads are not even built, yet citizens are receiving e-challans worth thousands,” he remarked. “We will free this city from the system of loot and land-grabbing.”

The JI chief criticised the Sindh government for poor urban planning and transport management, citing the Red Line and Orange Line BRT projects as examples of “failed execution.” He accused the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) of manipulating local body elections through rigging and unfair delimitations, claiming that powers had not yet been devolved to the town administrations.
Naeem also lambasted the Solid Waste Management Board for inefficiency, saying citizens paid garbage fees while the city remained filthy. He blamed the PPP-led provincial government for 15 years of neglect, from delayed development projects to unemployment.

Responding to the allegations, Sindh government spokesperson Sadia Javed dismissed Hafiz Naeem’s remarks as “propaganda and lies,” asserting that Karachi was progressing under PPP leadership. She claimed JI town chairmen had failed in their duties and accused the JI chief of being “obsessed with Mayor Murtaza Wahab.”
