Pakistan to temporarily close airspace for two days

Published on: October 27, 2025 3:42 PM

Pakistan has decided to close its airspace for specific hours over the next two days. The Pakistan Airport Authority (PAA) announced the move and issued a Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) to all airlines and aviation operators. The notice informs them of flight restrictions and safety measures during the closure. This temporary step is part of precautionary arrangements to ensure air safety and operational control.

According to the NOTAM, the airspace will remain closed on October 28 and 29 from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. daily. During these hours, commercial flights must adjust schedules and follow all safety guidelines. The restrictions will mainly affect specific routes within the Karachi and Lahore flight regions. Airlines have been advised to plan operations carefully and keep passengers updated on any changes or delays.

Officials said the decision was likely linked to Indian military exercises near the Pakistan border. They noted that such exercises often lead to increased security monitoring and airspace management. Therefore, the temporary closures aim to avoid any air traffic disruptions and maintain national security. The PAA has been closely coordinating with air traffic control and defense authorities to ensure smooth implementation.

The aviation regulator emphasized that the closure is temporary and will last only for the announced hours. It assured travelers that no major disruption is expected in domestic or international flight operations. However, some routes may experience short delays or rerouting during the restricted periods. Airlines are expected to cooperate and comply with the safety directives.

This precautionary decision highlights Pakistan’s continued focus on aviation safety and border security. It also reflects growing regional sensitivity following recent military activities near the eastern border. Authorities have assured that normal flight operations will resume after the two-day schedule. Passengers are advised to stay in contact with their airlines for the latest updates.
