KARACHI – The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has reported that the Depression over the eastern Arabian Sea has moved north-northwestwards over the past 24 hours and is now centered around Latitude 16.40°N and Longitude 70.40°E, approximately 1,004 kilometers south-southeast of Karachi.
According to the Met Office’s fourth alert issued on Saturday, the system is currently located 400 kilometers southwest of Mumbai, India, over the east-central Arabian Sea. The PMD’s Cyclone Warning Center in Karachi stated that the system is likely to continue moving northwestward over the next 24 hours.

The PMD assured that no coastal area of Pakistan is under threat, and the system is being continuously monitored. However, the department has advised fishermen to remain cautious due to possible rough sea conditions in the region.
Earlier on Thursday, the low-pressure area intensified into a depression after forming over the southern Arabian Sea, about 1,800 kilometers southeast of Karachi. In October, a similar low-pressure system had developed into Cyclone Shakhti, which caused high waves and rough weather along Sindh’s coastal belt before dissipating over the northwest Arabian Sea.
