Ali Tareen tears up PCB legal notice, vows not to be silenced over PSL criticism

'I will not remain silent': Ali Tareen rips up PCB notice over criticism
MULTAN – Multan Sultans owner Ali Tareen has publicly torn up a legal notice sent by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), declaring he will not be silenced for voicing criticism of the Pakistan Super League (PSL) administration.

The PCB’s notice reportedly demanded that Tareen retract his statements and issue a formal apology or risk termination of the franchise agreement and blacklisting.

In a defiant video message shared on social media, Tareen said, “I will not remain silent in the face of these threats. If you think I will be silenced by such intimidation, you are mistaken.”

He reaffirmed his commitment to PSL, saying it “belongs to the entire nation,” and added that he remains open to dialogue to resolve the issue. However, he claimed that no one from the PSL administration had contacted him through any formal channel to discuss his concerns.

The PCB alleged that the franchise had violated its agreement and engaged in activities damaging to the league’s reputation. It warned that failure to comply with the notice could result in franchise cancellation.

In response, Multan Sultans expressed disappointment over the PCB’s reaction, stressing that Tareen’s comments were made in the best interests of the league. The franchise also highlighted Tareen’s contributions to Pakistani cricket, including his efforts to establish academies for nurturing young talent.

The team further noted that Tareen has invested billions of rupees in the PSL and personally incurred losses of around Rs7 billion, yet remained committed to promoting cricket in the country.

Criticizing the board’s approach, the franchise said that treating constructive criticism as a crime reflects administrative weakness and a lack of accountability within the PSL management.
