Only Pakistan’s PM Shehbaz knows how to handle Trump, says The Guardian

Published on: October 16, 2025 4:35 PM

British newspaper The Guardian has said that only Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif knows how to handle US President Donald Trump. The report highlighted an incident at the Gaza Peace Summit in Sharm El-Sheikh, where Trump reportedly unsettled several world leaders with his remarks. However, Shehbaz Sharif remained calm, confident, and skillfully managed the situation.

According to The Guardian, Trump made inappropriate comments about several leaders during the event. He complimented Italy’s Prime Minister on her beauty, joked about the UAE Vice President’s wealth, and embarrassed UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer by interrupting him mid-conversation. Trump also teased Hungary’s president and mocked Canada’s Prime Minister for being called “President” instead of “Governor.”

The report stated that among all attendees, Shehbaz Sharif was the only leader who knew how to keep Trump in check. During the speeches, Shehbaz praised Trump generously, making him smile and relax. At one point, when Trump tried to approach the stage again, Shehbaz calmly stopped him and continued his own address without losing composure.

The Guardian described the moment as an example of “tactful diplomacy” and said Shehbaz handled Trump better than any other global leader present. The article noted that while many leaders appeared uncomfortable or confused by Trump’s unpredictable behavior, Shehbaz’s quick wit and diplomatic restraint stood out.

The report concluded that Trump arrived more than two hours late to the event and created several awkward moments for fellow leaders. Yet, it was Pakistan’s Prime Minister who managed to steer the interaction with grace, proving his ability to deal effectively with difficult personalities on the world stage.
