The R&B star explained that performing the songs so regularly makes the music feel timeless, adding that it feels closer to 20 years than the album’s actual 38-year history.
Released in the late 1980s, Don’t Be Cruel became one of Brown’s biggest career achievements, producing hit songs including My Prerogative, Every Little Step, and the title track. The album went on to sell more than 12 million copies worldwide, securing its place as one of the defining R&B records of its era.

Brown also reflected on a difficult period in his life, revealing that an arrest in Georgia unexpectedly increased public attention around the album. When discussing the songs that remain closest to his heart, Brown said My Prerogative continues to be his favorite. However, he also enjoys performing Roni and Every Little Step, adding that every track from the album still brings him great satisfaction whenever he performs live for audiences around the world.
