PTI Activist Falak Javed Remanded in Zaman Park Police Attack Case

Published on: October 14, 2025 9:04 AM

A Lahore anti-terrorism court has granted police a 14-day physical remand of PTI activist Falak Javed in the Zaman Park attack case. The Falak Javed case involves an alleged assault on an Islamabad police team outside the residence of former prime minister Imran Khan. Police told the court they needed her custody for investigation. Falak was presented before the court under tight security as the hearing drew public attention.

The investigating officer said Falak’s interrogation was essential to identify other suspects linked to the Zaman Park incident. He claimed the case required detailed questioning to collect evidence and verify her role in the attack. However, Falak’s counsel opposed the remand, calling it politically motivated. He argued that police had earlier informed the Lahore High Court that she was not wanted in any case.

The defense lawyer urged the court to release Falak and dismiss the charges. He said her arrest showed clear misuse of authority and personal bias. Despite these objections, the court sided with police, saying further investigation was necessary. The judge directed the investigating team to present their findings at the next hearing on October 27. The Falak Javed case has since drawn criticism from PTI leaders and supporters.

Earlier, a judicial magistrate had sent Falak on judicial remand in two other cases. These cases involved alleged misuse of social media platforms against state institutions and a provincial minister. The National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency had arrested her from Islamabad last week. Officials claimed she violated cyber laws through online content critical of government figures.

The court’s latest decision allows police to question Falak for two weeks in connection with the Zaman Park violence. Authorities have been investigating multiple incidents related to protests and clashes near Imran Khan’s residence. PTI supporters view her arrest as part of a broader crackdown on dissent. However, police maintain that the Falak Javed case is based on evidence and due process.
