ISLAMABAD: Pakistan is in close contact with its international partners to ensure the safety and swift repatriation of its citizens who have been illegally detained by Israeli occupying forces, the Foreign Office said on Sunday.
In response to media queries about the Pakistani nationals aboard the Sumud flotilla, the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that former Senator Mushtaq Ahmad was among those detained but is safe and in good health.
“Through the diplomatic channels of a friendly European country, we have confirmed that former Senator Mushtaq Ahmad is in the custody of the Israeli occupying forces and is safe and in good health,” the spokesperson said.

The spokesperson added that, under local legal procedures, Senator Mushtaq would be presented before a court, after which his deportation and repatriation will be expedited once the relevant orders are issued.
The ministry noted that it had earlier coordinated the safe return of other Pakistani citizens who had disembarked from the flotilla before its interception.
Expressing appreciation for the brotherly nations that extended diplomatic and logistical support, the Foreign Office reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to the protection and welfare of all its nationals abroad.
“The Government of Pakistan remains committed to ensuring the protection of all its citizens abroad and anticipates the completion of this repatriation process within the coming days,” the statement concluded.
