Reality show ‘Lazawal Ishq’ released despite criticism

Published on: September 30, 2025 5:56 PM

Despite widespread criticism from social media users and public figures, reality show Lazawal Ishq has officially premiered on YouTube. The first episode was released on September 29 and quickly drew massive attention, crossing 125,000 views within just a few hours. The show’s launch has reignited debate over its bold content and unique format.

The debut episode, with a runtime of nearly 130 minutes, introduced male and female contestants while revealing the show’s structure. Participants were asked to express preferences for their potential partners and were briefed about the program’s rules. Viewers also saw candid conversations between the host, Ayesha Omar, and the contestants, with discussions covering personal choices and perspectives.

However, the episode also sparked backlash as female participants were shown in bold, Western-style outfits, which many considered culturally inappropriate. Critics labeled the production a “dating show,” despite Ayesha Omar’s repeated claims that Lazawal Ishq is not about dating but rather about exploring the themes of “eternal love and affection.”

Calls for a ban on the program emerged soon after its trailer was released, with many urging authorities to block the show. Yet, regulators clarified that since the program is not airing on television, they lack the authority to impose restrictions. Demands were also made to the government and the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), but no official action was taken.

The show was filmed in Turkey and follows the format of an existing Turkish-language program. Similar reality shows have also been produced in Arabic, Persian, and other languages, indicating that Lazawal Ishq is part of a global entertainment trend. Organizers confirmed that the series will feature 100 episodes, with new installments expected to be released weekly.

The release has left audiences divided while some appreciate the bold experiment in reality television, others argue that such content undermines cultural values. With 99 more episodes yet to come, the debate around Lazawal Ishq appears far from over.
