Punjab appoints 36 magistrates to curb inflation

Published on: September 30, 2025 5:34 PM

The Punjab Cabinet Committee on Law and Order has approved the appointment of 36 price control magistrates across seven districts, aiming to strengthen enforcement of price regulations and control inflation. The districts include Kasur, Rajanpur, DG Khan, Vehari, Hafizabad, Murree, and Sialkot, where magistrates will monitor markets closely. Officials stressed that this step is crucial for stabilizing essential commodity prices and providing relief to citizens facing inflationary pressures.
The decision was finalized during the 36th meeting of the committee, chaired by Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique, with Provincial Law Minister Malik Sohaib Ahmed Bharath as the special guest. Senior officials, including Home Secretary Dr. Ahmad Javed Qazi, provided detailed updates on law and order, highlighting measures being taken to maintain stability across Punjab. The magistrates’ performance will be reviewed in the next meeting to ensure accountability and effectiveness.

Alongside price regulation, the meeting also focused on security preparations for the upcoming Pakistan-South Africa cricket series. It was decided that the visiting team will receive VVIP security status, with robust arrangements for both players and spectators. Authorities emphasized that foolproof planning is underway to ensure the international event proceeds smoothly and safely.

The committee further discussed initiatives aimed at promoting peace and social harmony. Khawaja Salman Rafique highlighted the formation of a special committee by the Home Department to address sectarianism and foster interfaith harmony. He stressed that long-term peace depends on eliminating divisive elements and building trust between communities.
