Leaders from the Arab League and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) gathered in Doha on Monday for an emergency summit. The meeting follows recent Israeli airstrikes on Qatar and continued aggression across the region. A draft resolution shared during the summit warns that Israel’s actions threaten peace and coexistence in the Middle East.
The resolution highlights that Israel’s attacks on Qatar, along with ongoing actions in Gaza, risk undermining normalization efforts. These include ethnic cleansing, settlement expansion, starvation tactics, and continued occupation. Leaders stated that such policies endanger not only existing relations with Israel but also future agreements and regional stability.
Foreign ministers from participating countries prepared the draft resolution on Sunday. The summit’s timing coincides with the fifth anniversary of the Abraham Accords. Signed in 2021, the accords normalized relations between Israel and several Arab states. However, worsening tensions have raised doubts about their durability.
Qatar’s Prime Minister, Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, strongly criticized global silence over Israel’s actions. In his address, he urged the international community to abandon “double standards.” He said the lack of accountability encourages Israel to continue violating international norms and escalate violence in Gaza and beyond.
As the Gaza war enters its third year, Israel has also struck other regional nations, including Lebanon, Iran, Yemen, and Syria. While some hope for unified Arab action, others remain skeptical. The summit marks a critical moment for Muslim nations to reassess their stance and push for a stronger, collective response.
