US Muslims, NUST sign MoU to sponsor underprivileged students

Published on: September 15, 2025 12:41 AM

In a major step toward promoting educational opportunities for underprivileged youth in Pakistan, Muslims of America and the National University of Sciences and Technology (NUST) officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) today in Washington, D.C.

The partnership aims to fully sponsor 20 deserving students from underprivileged families across Pakistan, enabling them to complete undergraduate degrees at NUST—one of Pakistan’s top-ranked universities renowned for its excellence in engineering, artificial intelligence, and emerging technologies.

The signing ceremony was attended by prominent community leaders, education advocates, and supporters of global academic collaboration.

Mr. Sajid Tarar, a respected Pakistani-American businessman and former advisor to U.S. President Donald Trump on minority affairs, addressed the audience at the ceremony:

“It is a pleasure to sponsor these bright young students. This initiative is just the beginning—we will continue to raise funds and expand support in the years to come. These young people are the future of Pakistan, and I am proud to invest in building that future.”

Mr Tarar commended NUST for offering world-class education and highlighted the importance of equipping Pakistan’s youth to compete globally, especially in cutting-edge fields like AI and technology.

Representing NUST, Dr. Rizwan, Pro-Rector of the university, expressed appreciation for the initiative and highlighted the importance of international collaboration:

“We are honored to partner with Muslims of America in this noble cause. NUST maintains a transparent, merit-based admission system and is proud to be one of the top universities in Pakistan. The increasing interest from international students further affirms our global credibility.”

Adding a message of solidarity, Mr. Jesse Singh, President of Sikhs of America, also spoke at the event:

“We Sikhs consider Pakistan our second home. It is our pleasure and honor to support educational opportunities for students in Pakistan. Education is a universal cause that transcends borders and communities.”

The MoU reflects a growing commitment by overseas Pakistanis and allied organizations to invest in the country’s youth through access to quality education. Future fundraising events and expanded scholarship programs were also announced, reinforcing the long-term vision of this partnership.
