Battlefield 6 launches balanced cross-play with smart matchmaking

Published on: August 6, 2025 4:41 PM

EA has revealed major updates for Battlefield 6, introducing a new cross-play system designed to offer fair and balanced gameplay for all players. The game will launch on October 10, 2025, with a “preferred input” matchmaking feature to match players based on their devices.

This new system groups controller users together and also matches PC players using mouse and keyboard separately. Producer Alexia Christofi said this method will reduce unfair advantages caused by different input types. Cross-play between consoles and PC will only happen when needed to fill game lobbies.

With this change, EA aims to keep matchmaking fast without compromising fairness. Unlike Battlefield 2042, where cross-play was always on and often caused unbalanced matches, Battlefield 6 treats it as a fallback option. Players can toggle cross-play on or off depending on their preferences.

In addition, Battlefield 6 will improve its skill-based matchmaking (SBMM). The game will prioritize players’ ping to connect them closer to servers, while skill level will still play a role but vary by game mode and player availability. More details on SBMM will be shared later.

Battlefield 6 keeps the classic features fans love, such as large-scale battles, class-based squads, vehicle warfare, and dynamic environments that players can destroy. To get a taste of the new game, an open beta will be available starting August 9, 2025, for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, and PC users.

With these updates, EA hopes to create a better and more enjoyable experience for all Battlefield players, balancing competitive fairness with quick matchmaking across platforms.
