The real issue behind Komal Meer’s ‘new look’

Published on: July 24, 2025 3:53 PM

Actor and model Komal Meer has addressed the harsh criticism she faced over her recent appearance. In a new interview with Aamna Isani, she explained the reasons behind her visibly fuller face. Komal shared that she has struggled with disordered eating and being underweight her entire life. Despite being thin, she often faced body shaming from people within the entertainment industry. She was told to gain weight to look better on screen and meet casting expectations.

Komal said that when she was offered a film role, she was asked to gain a few pounds. She began eating more freely and gained six kilograms, which showed mostly on her face. Despite feeling healthier than ever, she received intense backlash online. Many social media users accused her of getting cosmetic procedures, including fillers and Botox. The criticism quickly shifted focus away from her talent and achievements.

Still, Komal stood by her truth. She clarified that she had not undergone any cosmetic changes. Her appearance, she said, simply reflected a healthier lifestyle. But the negative attention affected her deeply. She said it was upsetting that her natural body changes led to so much speculation and judgment. Her story shows the pressure women face over their looks, especially in the public eye.

This issue, however, goes far beyond one person. Komal’s experience highlights a bigger cultural problem with how women’s bodies are constantly policed. Public figures, especially women, often face scrutiny over natural changes like weight gain or aging. People feel entitled to comment on and analyze their appearances. As a result, women are judged more for how they look than for what they do.

Komal’s story is a reminder that body autonomy should not need explanation. Her openness is powerful, but such conversations should not be necessary. Society must shift focus from appearance to talent, health, and personal choice. Until then, public figures like Komal will continue to face criticism just for existing in their own skin.
