Public transport services in Karachi, including the BRT Green Line and the Peoples Bus Service, have been partially suspended due to security concerns during Muharram-ul-Haram. Authorities say the move ensures public safety during large religious processions.
According to a spokesperson, the Green Line BRT will be completely shut down on the 8th, 9th, and 10th of Muharram. The Peoples Bus Service will also face major route closures across the city during these days.
On the 9th and 10th of Muharram, seven out of ten main bus routes will not operate, significantly affecting daily commuters. On the 8th of Muharram, five routes will run on a partially suspended schedule, the spokesperson confirmed.
Officials emphasized that the decision was made after careful coordination with law enforcement and city administration. Procession routes pass through key areas covered by the suspended services, making safety a top priority.
Meanwhile, transport authorities have urged citizens to plan their travel ahead of time. They also requested the public to cooperate with the changes and avoid unnecessary movement in high-risk areas.
The suspension highlights the city’s efforts to maintain peace during the holy days of Muharram, ensuring that religious gatherings continue without security threats or transport disruptions.
