RAWALPINDI – The Rawalpindi Bench of the Lahore High Court on Monday granted bail to 21 political workers involved in multiple protest cases, including those linked to the November 24 and 26 demonstrations.
The bail approval also extends to earlier cases from May 9 and October 4, effectively clearing all protest-related detainees from Rawalpindi and Attock jails. This significant decision marks a turning point for those held in custody for participating in political protests.
Justice Sadaqat Ali Khan and Justice Amjad Rafiq issued the bail orders, directing each accused to submit surety bonds worth Rs 100,000. The court emphasized the importance of upholding legal rights while ensuring accountability through the judicial process.
Meanwhile, over at the Islamabad High Court, a scheduled hearing of appeals filed by Sohail Khan and others—convicted in the May 9 attack on Ramna police station—could not proceed. The division bench, comprising Justice Khadim Hussain Soomro and Justice Muhammad Azam Khan, was set to hear the appeal.
The convicts have also requested the suspension of their sentences, which were issued by an Anti-Terrorism Court. A new hearing date will be announced soon.
This development reflects ongoing judicial reviews of political protest cases and brings temporary relief to several detainees awaiting trial or sentence reconsideration.
