Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur said on Wednesday that the provincial assembly will be dissolved whenever PTI founder Imran Khan gives the signal. He added that the budget was passed only to avoid a constitutional crisis.
Speaking to the media outside Adiala Jail, Gandapur stated that the KP government still has the power to dissolve the assembly. “We passed the budget to avoid a constitutional deadlock, but our final decision lies with Imran Khan,” he said.
He also criticized authorities for denying him a meeting with the jailed PTI leader. “As a chief minister, I have the right to meet any prisoner. It is our constitutional and political right to meet our leader,” Gandapur emphasized. “If we are not allowed this meeting, we will not support the IMF programme.”
He added that he is often accused of using harsh language, “but what else should I do when they don’t even allow us to meet our leader?” Gandapur warned that the government would only allow talks when they are stuck in a political crisis.
Moreover, he announced that PTI would boycott all finance committee meetings in protest. “We are being pushed to the wall. If we protest, we are fired at. The constitution and the law are being openly violated in the country,” he stated.
The chief minister reiterated his party’s firm stance, saying the PTI leadership would not back down until their constitutional rights are respected and Imran Khan is given the political space he deserves.
