Russia has responded to growing questions about whether it will supply advanced defense systems like the S-400 to Iran. The Kremlin has stated that it depends on what kind of help Iran requests. Russian officials said they are open to supporting Iran, but any action will be based on Iran’s clear demands.
Speaking to the media, the Kremlin spokesperson said Russia is willing to take different steps to assist Tehran. However, Moscow first wants Iran to define the type of help it currently needs. This includes whether Iran will request weapons such as the S-300 or S-400 air defense systems.
The Kremlin made it clear that all decisions will depend on Iran’s wishes. Russia also offered to mediate and confirmed its support for Iran. The spokesperson stressed that future actions will match Tehran’s needs. At the same time, he strongly condemned U.S. attacks on Iran, saying they have added more players to the conflict.
He added that the U.S. strikes have opened a new phase of tensions. The situation around Iran’s nuclear sites and radiation risks remains unclear. According to him, the on-ground situation after the strikes is concerning and must be closely watched.
Finally, the Kremlin reminded the world that choosing a country’s leadership is the right of its own people—not any outside power. For context, the S-400 is a powerful Russian-made air defense system. It can track up to 300 targets at once and engage 36 of them in a single strike. The system can destroy aircraft, cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, and drones traveling up to 4.8 km per second.
