Snap Inc. has bought Saturn, a social calendar app widely used by high school and college students across the U.S. Saturn helps users organize their daily schedules and see what their friends are doing in real time. Impressively, about 80% of U.S. high schools already use the app.
As part of the deal, nearly 30 Saturn team members will join Snap. Saturn will continue operating independently for now, but Snap plans to bring Saturn’s calendar and social features into Snapchat in creative and innovative ways to enhance user experience.
Saturn stands out because it blends social networking with practical scheduling. Students can share timetables for classes, sports, meetings, and rehearsals, helping them coordinate their activities better. This acquisition supports Snap’s wider goal of turning online friendships into real-life meetups and interactions.
The purchase aligns with Snap’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its connection with Gen Z users. It follows other recent investments in augmented reality, messaging features, and app integrations to keep Snapchat fresh and competitive in a crowded social media market.
Founded in 2018, Saturn raised $44 million in 2021 from top investors like General Catalyst and Insight Partners, with support from well-known figures including Jeff Bezos, Marc Benioff, and Ashton Kutcher. Snap has not yet revealed when Saturn’s features will be added to Snapchat.
