India has officially suspended its trade and educational relations with Türkiye, citing Ankara’s continued support for Pakistan amid ongoing diplomatic tensions between the South Asian rivals.
According to a statement from India’s Ministry of External Affairs, the decision is part of a broader policy to reassess relations with nations that challenge or question India’s sovereignty.
The diplomatic rift deepened after Türkiye voiced strong support for Pakistan during periods of heightened India-Pakistan tensions. In response, Indian authorities have taken a series of measures targeting Turkish interests within the country.
Earlier, Indian officials revoked security clearance for Turkish ground-handling company Celebi, which operates at several Indian airports. In addition, a grassroots campaign calling for the boycott of Turkish apples has gained momentum across parts of India.
Celebi has since challenged the government’s move in the Delhi High Court, arguing that the decision lacked a clear explanation of any national security threat posed by the company. In its legal filing, Celebi asserted that punitive action cannot be justified based solely on verbal allegations without substantiated evidence.
The suspension marks a further deterioration in bilateral ties between India and Türkiye, which have been strained over Ankara’s repeated remarks backing Islamabad on issues such as Kashmir.
