Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Ali Amin Gandapur has petitioned the Islamabad High Court for the parole release of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan. The petition, filed through legal representatives Latif Khosa and Shahbaz Khosa, argues that Khan’s life is at risk due to potential drone attacks on Adiala Jail amid escalating tensions with India.
The petition highlights Khan’s previous tenure as Prime Minister, during which he reportedly caused international embarrassment to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, suggesting that Khan could be a target for retaliation. It further contends that Khan’s prolonged incarceration on politically motivated charges is infringing upon his fundamental rights.
Gandapur assures the court that Khan is committed to adhering to all conditions of parole if granted. The petition also notes concerns about Khan’s deteriorating health due to extended imprisonment. Despite previous requests to the Punjab Home Secretary for parole, no action has been taken, prompting this legal intervention.
The petition names the federal government, Punjab government, Islamabad Inspector General, Adiala Jail Superintendent, and the parole committee as respondents. It emphasizes that Khan has complied with prison rules during his detention, underscoring his suitability for parole.
