ISLAMABAD: Scientists from Pakistan and Bangladesh have been named as the winner of the prestigious UNESCO Prize for Microbiology. Pakistani scientist Dr Shahida Hasnain and Bangladeshi professor Dr Samir Saha have been named by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) as the two laureates of the 2017 Carlos J Finlay UNESCO Prize for Microbiology. The prize money of $10,000 will be divided between the two laureates. This prestigious prize is awarded to scientists whose research has made an outstanding contribution to microbiology and its applications, the Gulf News reported. The prize will be presented to them on 6th November during the 39th session of the General Conference of UNESCO, which will bring together the organization’s 195 member-states between 30 October and 14 November, said a UNESCO statement.
