DADU: Activists of Pakistan People’s Party Shaheed Bhutto (PPPSB) staged a protest outside Dadu Press Club against Sukkur Electric Power Company (SEPCO) Dadu authorities for load-shedding in Dadu and its outskirts. PPPSB activists raised slogans against SEPCO officials urging them to stop the load-shedding and overcharging consumers. The protest was led by PPPSB Dadu leaders Imamdin Khoso, Syed Ali Basit, IB Khoso, Zahid Khoso and Raheem Khushik. During his address, Imamdin Khoso said even though the weather had cooled down, SEPCO officials were still carrying out load-shedding of 12 to 16 hours in Dadu. He said load-shedding had affected businesses in Dadu badly. He also said that consumers were being overcharged by SEPCO officials every month. He alleged that SEPCO officials had been receiving thousands in bribes from several households. Addressing the protesters, PPPSB Press Secretary Syed Ali Basit said load-shedding had also increased water shortage in Dadu and citizens were being compelled to buy water from third parties. He also stated that most of Dadu’s flour and rice factories had been struggling due to load-shedding. IB Khoso said SEPCO officials of Dadu had made billions in corruption through inflated bills. He said despite the billions given to Dadu to improve the city’s electric supply infrastructure, the city sees citizens getting injured regularly due to decaying electric infrastructure. He said SEPCO officials and their staff were busy in corruption and no one was ready to take action against them. Protesters urged Minister of State for Power Abid Sher Ali to take notice against the load-shedding and corruption of SEPCO officials of Dadu. Published in Daily Times, October 21st 2017.
