ISLAMABAD: Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Senator Sirajul Haq said on Monday that any clash among the institutions could have grave consequences. In a statement on Monday, he said that the constitution and the laws were being amended only to protect an individual. He said the constitution and the laws were framed for the country and the nation and not to protect the interests of a family or an individual. “There cannot be any amendment to the constitution or the law only for the sake of an individual,” he said. While addressing a public meeting at Drosh in Chitral, Sirajul Haq said that if the US, Europe, Israel and India could join hands to attack Afghanistan, why could the religious parties in the country not unite for a common cause. The JI chief strongly condemned Foreign Minister Khwaja Asif’s statement against Hafiz Muhammad Saeed. “This was done to please the US,” he said. “The historic fact is that Pakistan foiled the Soviet Russia’s designs. It has been playing host to around four million Afghans. If Khwaja Asif is ashamed of Pakistan’s achievement against Soviet Union, he should stay in the US. The JI and the Pakistani nation are proud of their grand achievement against Soviet Union,” he said. Haq said that the foreign minister during his visit to the US, had not talked about the Rohingyas, or Dr Aafia Siddiqui. “On the other hand, the foreign minister nullified the sacrifices of the country in the war against terror and felt ashamed over the country’s role in the Afghan war,” he said. “Ashura Muharram is the historic day when the grandson of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) fought against the forces of evil and refused to accept Yazid as a legitimate ruler. Islam teaches the lesson of standing firm with the forces of truth,” he said. The JI chief said that the Islamic system stood for protecting the rights of the poor and the downtrodden. “Islam gives due rights to the women. All other man made systems failed to deliver and now it is Islam’s turn,” he said. Haq said the JI demanded the rights of the people in Chitral in the CPEC. He said the northern areas were rich in minerals, but there was poverty because of corruption. Meanwhile, the JI chief visited the residence of Arslan Alam Shaheed and offered his condolences to the father and the family members of the martyr. He said that the whole nation was proud of the supreme sacrifice of the brave sons of the soil who were laying their lives for the country. Published in Daily Times, October 3rd 2017.
