Sir: When the Punjab government announced the Yellow Cab scheme, it was made mandatory for the applicant to have a year-old licence. At the last minute, this condition was scrapped. As usually happens in Pakistan, people scrambled to secure driving licences and became victims of privately operating individuals. When the verification stage arrived following the lucky draw, it turned out that most of the licences issued in Ghotki, Badin and Nawabshah were bogus. The lucky candidates who had won the draw are to date not given the promised vehicles because of their bogus licences. I request the chief minister of Punjab to grant at least 60 days relaxation to get licences issued in the winners’ home districts. Moreover, strict action should be taken against all ‘fake’ agents.
