Sir: It is sad to notice that since 1993 Balochistan course books are the same. In the 21st century, students of Balochistan are bored with the old course books and they are demanding a change in textbooks. However, there are some facts to be considered. Firstly, the course books are very lengthy, which cannot be finished within a year and teachers face problems. Secondly, the course books contain old information and students remain unaware of modern information. Thirdly, the students of Balochistan are deprived of technical knowledge. Nevertheless, another issue that needs more attention is that, from primary to high school, students are taught in the Urdu medium in public institutions; this causes problems when the shift to English language is made. If textbooks are changed, teachers become more interested to teach new information contained in the books and students make the most of it. Furthermore, it is the responsibility of government to introduce technical courses where projectors and computers should be used to teach. Balochistan is a backward area where majority of the people are not rich enough to purchase technical instruments for study. However, I personally request the government of Pakistan to take serious steps to solve this critical matter. SHAHZAIB K SELC Turbat
