LAHORE: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman Shaharyar Mohammad Khan has called the performance of Pakistan women’s cricket team in the ongoing ICC World Cup 2017 in United Kingdom as ‘disappointing’. In an interview to BBC Urdu, the chairman said that in view of raising the standard of women cricket in the country – new talent must be discovered and taken forward, adding that the team were given special training before the tournament and he was gravely disappointed by the team’s dismal performance. He said making Sabih Azhar coach of the team at the eleventh hour did not turn out to be a correct decision as he felt that even the players were not happy with him. Shaharyar said that to raise standard in women’s cricket, increase of players in the domestic system was needed. “It is a good omen that girls from as far as Balochistan and Gilgit are coming in the national squad, however still societal issues are big hindrance for women’s cricket in Pakistan as parents don’t allow their daughters to play the sport.” He added that if there was a group within the team – he would take action against it.
