NYON: European champions Real Madrid dominate Union of European Football Associations (UEFA) nominations for Champions League 2016-17 finest performers awards. Madrid, who have won the competition a record twelve times with consecutive victories in 2016 and 2017, saw six of their team members nominated for different categories including best goalkeeper, defender, midfielder and forward award. Cristiano Ronaldo, who was the top goal-scorer in last season’s competition, sees himself nominated for the best forward award alongside Barcelona’s Lionel Messi and Juventus’ Paulo Dybala. Real Madrid midfielders Luka Modric, Casemiro and Toni Kroos have also been nominated in their categories, as well as team captain Sergio Ramos and full-back Marcelo, who enlist themselves among the top defenders. The awards will be handed out together with the UEFA Men’s Player of the Year and UEFA Women’s Player of the Year 2017 awards during the champions league group-stage draw on August 24.
