KARACHI: The law enforcement agencies including Rangers and police have launched a crackdown in the wake of the recent firing and terror incidents in the city. During the crackdown, information of people from different nationalities would be collected, while more emphasis would be given to those individuals, who have long been working or living in the city. As many as four people were killed and three were injured in various incidents on Friday, whereas law enforcement agencies (LEAs) arrested 20 persons in targeted operations across the metropolis, Daily Times has learnt. According to reports, the firing incidents took place in different areas of Karachi. The deceased and injured immediately rushed to the hospital. Sources said that two deceased were identified as Amir Haider and Asim. Similarly, unknown assailants opened fire at three men sitting outside their house killing two, and injuring one person at Jaffar Tayyar Society. DIG East, Dr Kamran Faisal, said that the slain men include owners of a wedding lawn, Malik Asim and Ameer Haider. The injured was identified as Hasan. He said, “The murder took place using a 9 mm pistol. It seems like a target killing.” A Muttahida Qaumi Movement spokesperson claimed that Asim was one of their workers. The MQM condemned target killing of its activists and demanded an immediate arrest of the culprits. In a separate incident at Mujahid Colony, Orangi Town gunmen gunned down a person. In yet another incident at Landhi 89, a 22-year-old Aqeel was shot dead by unknown assailants. Meanwhile, security forces conducted a search operation at Old Sabzi Mandi and arrested another 15 suspects whereas in a shootout at the Super Highway, police arrested two suspects in an injured condition. Meanwhile, the SIU CIA Karachi on Friday arrested two criminals from Jamshed Quarters namely Mehrab Gul and Fida Hussain who are proclaimed offenders. SIU SSP Farooq Awan said that two pistols along with bullets have also been recovered. On a separate note, at least 25 suspected persons have been apprehended in separate search operations conducted by Rangers and police in different areas of Karachi. On tip-off, Rangers conducted door-to-door checking during search operation in Old Sabzi Mandi, Pir Bukari and adjourning areas of PIB Colony. The Rangers sealed the entry and exits points of area and apprehended 15 suspected persons. The detainees have been shifted to undisclosed locations, while investigations are underway. Sources said that the detainees are professional criminals. Meanwhile, intelligence agencies conducted a raid and detained three workers of MQM. Similarly, intelligence agencies conducted raid in Lyari area and apprehended 13 gangsters of Uzair Baloch gang. The names of detainees are Imran, Rizwan Shahrukh. On a separate note, Darakhshan Police conducted a raid besides sea and arrested an accused person Jalaluddin, while police recovered pistol and three rounds of bullets from suspects’ possession. Police said that the accused had been looting citizens with his accomplices. Police claimed to have arrested two accused persons in injured condition during a police encounter near Akhtar Kahnta area. Police recovered two TT pistols and a motorcycle from suspects’ possession.
