KARACHI: Chief Minister Sindh has given a task to the Governor to resolve conflicts between Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) and Karachi Development Authority (KDA). A meeting in this regard was held at Governor House which was attended by Sindh Local Government Minister Jam Khan Shoro, Deputy Mayor Arshad Vohra and other officials. They decided to devise a mechanism for this purpose and during the meeting CM asked the governor to resolve disputes between the two city entities. Shoro during the meeting revealed that Agha Siraj Durrani (Speaker Sindh Assembly), Shehla Raza (Deputy Speaker) and former minister LG Sharjeel Memon are meddling in the affairs of KDA. He said in this situation the CM could be asked for the resolution of this issue. The conflicts are regarding with office accommodation, salary, funds, relief of 261 employees of KDA, encroachment of mayor office in KDA building assets, management, and other matters. In a letter to Director General KDA, Local Government Housing Town Planning Department (GoS) directed DG KDA to take strict action against the officers involved, but no action has been taken in this regard yet. Riaz Ahmed Shar, Section Officer, in a written letter to DG KDA asked to stop harassing KMC employees. Also, Transition Committee meeting chaired by Ghulam Abbas Dahto (Additional Secretary of Local Government) had tried to resolve this problem but all went in vain. KMC officials claimed that Mukarram Sultan Bukhari, a Consultant at KDA, working on contract, and members of KDA Union are behind this conflict. KMC offices were shifted to KDA on the directives of former Nazim Karachi Naimatullah Khan. KDA officials are using different tactics against KMC officials in order to pressurize them to vacate office premises. It should be noted that the mayor office at main KMC building on M A Jinnah Road has been declared insecure for delegates and other dignitaries.
