KARACHI: One more person infected with deadly Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever (CCHF) died on Monday at local hospital here, bringing the total death toll from this deadly disease to seven. Mohammad Siddique, aged 51, resident of Bhittaiabad Area, was admitted in the hospital on September 14th and later diagnosed with Congo Fever, Dr Zafar Mehdi, focal person of the government facility for prevention of naegleria and CCHF told Daily Times. Dr Mehdi added that two persons have been shifted to Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC), and both of them were suspected as infected with Congo fever. “Both cases are suspected, hence shifted to the hospital last week. We would have their laboratory tests within couple of days,” he added. The Sindh health ministry’s figures show that around 60 cases of the disease have been reported in the provincial capital Karachi. Earlier, among six deaths from CCHF in Karachi two belonged to Afghanistan, two were from Bahawalpur, and two were from Karachi. Crimean-Congo Haemorrhagic fever (CCHF) is a widespread disease caused by a tick-borne virus. According to World Health Organization, CCHF virus causes severe viral haemorrhagic fever outbreaks, with a case fatality rate of 10 to 40 percent.
