LAHORE: Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) chief Sirajul Haq on Saturday said that the rulers were regretful that they did not abolish Article 62 and 63 of the constitution. He also said, “No one will be allowed to abolish these articles.” The JI chief said this while addressing a rally in Rawalpindi as part of the party’s ‘Yaum-e-Azam’ activities, meant to mark the party’s resolve to continue its struggle against corruption. According to details, Siraj said that it was a matter of shame that the prime minister of Pakistan should be working for a company in a small country. “Such an act is tantamount to putting the country’s honour at stake,” he added. The JI chief said that one could only pity the intelligence of those who regard the Joint Investigation Team (JIT) report, and the Supreme Court’s unanimous decision, as unjust. “Even in western countries a liar is not allowed to contest elections,” he said. Questioning the government’s claim of putting the country on path of progress, Haq said, “The reality is that half of country’s population can’t get clean drinking water; government hospitals have only one bed for every three patients; and the educated youth’s quest for jobs remains a wild goose chase.” Commenting further on the Panama case verdict, Haq said that Nawaz Sharif “is facing Allah’s wrath for his failure to abolish usury despite pledges”, adding, “The blood of Shaheed Mumtaz Qadri could not have gone to waste”.
