BANNU: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Tuesday the government would not be deterred by political blustering and it would continue to pursue the agenda of development and prosperity. “However, if corruption worth a single penny is proved against me, I will not wait for a moment to quit,” the prime minister said in his address to a public gathering here. The gathering attracted supporters of the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) led by Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman. The prime minister said he enjoyed the public mandate and would not quit on the demand of a few people. He said that those who talked about making a “new Khyber Pakhtunkhwa” should see the condition of the province. “They lured the people of KP to get votes, but did not bring any change in three years of their tenure,” he said, referring to the leadership of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) that is in power in the province. He said that during his visits to KP cities such as Bannu, Peshawar, Mansehra and Shinkiari he found the same shabby buildings of schools and hospitals instead of a new KP. Sharif said that a new era of development ushered in under his government, which launched work on a network of new motorways and roads across the country. He said that some people were doing the politics of sit-ins and lamenting rigging in the last general election. He said the Supreme Court gave its verdict on transparency of the last general election. “This was a slap on their face, however they did not even bother to apologise to the nation for their wrong claims and now they have come up with new allegations,” he said. He broke the ground to lay down gas pipelines to supply gas to five union councils of Bannu. The project costing Rs 259,500,000 would be completed in one year. He announced upgrade of roads from Kohat to Sarai Kambela and Sarai Kambela to Dera Ismail Khan and increasing electricity generation capacity of a 350 MW powerhouse in Bannu to 700 MW. The prime minister announced establishing a university in Lakki Marwat to cater to the educational needs of the local people. He announced an international airport in Bannu and economic zones in Kohat and Karak. He announced Rs 200 million each for the district and tehsil councils of Bannu.
