Sir: The recent outbreak of Chikungunya has wrapped the entire village of Kohi Goth, located in Malir. According to reliable sources, around ten people have been killed and more than 1700 are estimated to have fallen prey to this life threatening disease. Almost 90 percent families in the village are suffering from this deadly disease. The unavailability of relevant medicines at the nearest hospitals is further deteriorating the situation. The sufferings of the residents have so far not reached the concerned authorities, however, a medical camp has been set up by the youth of the area. Government and NGO’s, which claim the safety of people from the deadly diseases, haven’t made it to the village yet. Most of people residing in this region live below the poverty line and can hardly make both ends meet, therefore, they find it hard to make it to private hospitals. More causalities are expected to take place if patients are left unattended or at the aid of inadequate treatment. It is high time the provincial government, medical organisations and NGOs came forward to ensure the well-being of the patients and also alleviate their sufferings.
