QUETTA: Two security personnel were martyred and three others were injured on Saturday in an explosion during a security operation in Balochistan’s Awaran district. Official sources said that unidentified armed men planted a remote-controlled explosive device in Jhao area of the Awaran district, and detonated it when a vehicle carrying Frontier Corps (FC) personnel was passing by. “Two FC personnel were martyred and three others were injured,” a spokesman for the FC said. He said that FC personnel were clearing the area of the landmines when their vehicle was targeted by a remote-controlled bomb blast. The martyrs and the injured were shifted to a hospital. According to the bomb disposal squad, improvised explosives device was used in the blast. The law enforcement agencies launched a search operation in the area. Meanwhile, three militants were killed in a gunbattle with the security forces in Barkhan district. According to the FC spokesman, the security personnel, on a tip-off cordoned off the hideouts of the militants. “The militants opened fire at the FC personnel who retaliated, resulting in the killing of the three militants including their commander. He said the two militants were also arrested. Further probe was underway.
