Google to officially launch YouTube in Pakistan

Published on: September 6, 2016 2:13 PM

The tech giant will be organising an event in Karachi on this account. Initial details suggest the event, aiming to bring together the digital community to engage content creators, marketers, advertisers and brands to build a YouTube community in Pakistan, will be held on September 28.

‘Google for publishers’: Google’s first-ever tech Google, a tech giant working internationality has planned to launch YouTube officially in Pakistan at a launch event later the following month.

Google will hold this YouTube launch even in Karachi on 28th of September, where it is hoping to gather a digital community of the country.

After the Three and half of the years of ban on YouTube in Pakistan, the ban was lifted earlier this year and Google introduced a localized version of YouTube for Pakistani users.

It is expected that Google will launch YouTube officially in Pakistan.

Google is hoping to engage the markets, creators, advertisers, and brands to build the YouTube community in Pakistan. Where after the blockage many video sharing website got the heavy share of YouTube’s Traffic.

Experts say that YouTube’s ban during 2012-2015 was a crucial time for internet companies operating in Pakistan and apparently YouTube missed the train and it is now going to make efforts to engage the community, especially the content creators.

Many social media stars and artists from Pakistan like ZaidAliT, Sham Idrees, Umair Khaliq, Comics by Arsalan went for Facebook after Government banned the YouTube in the country and got millions of fans on Facebook. YouTube is trying to get back those visitors.

“Please save the date, register and join us at Pakistan’s first ever YouTube Launch Event for an evening of learning from the top YouTube content creators and brand builders. Discover powerful new opportunities to engage your audience, express your story and invite people to participate with your brand across Google and YouTube,” reads a statement on the event’s page.

The popular video sharing site was banned in September, 2012 after it refused to take down an anti-Islam film. The ban was lifted only after the company launched a local version of the site, allowing Pakistani authorities to remove material deemed offensive.

YouTube now has the unenviable task of grabbing back space relinquished in the Pakistani digital market over the three-and-a-half year ban.

Those wishing to attend the event can register themselves at Google’s website. They will receive an invite after registering. The venue of the event has not been disclosed as of yet. It is expected to be unveiled closer to the day of the event.

The announcement comes on the heels of Google’s maiden visit to the country. A Google team is currently in Pakistan and holding sessions at different universities to inspire students who are interested in designing and developing content for the website.
