Social media, what are you doing to me?

Social media has explored the world to great extent and nowadays people across the world are in grip of it. It is mainly considered as a major source of interconnection among people in the 21st Century. Before that, there was no concept of social media in the world. In fact, the world was existing without a powerful medium through which our lives are far convenient to live. A revolutionary world is just because of its invention and advancement.

Social media is also integrated in almost every aspect of marketing campaigns. Social media integration refers as one of the most popular and effective ways of marketing strategy today. It help to generate online exposure for brands and products. Social media is one of the platform for marketing strategies that allows to connect directly with audience. Social media is just not providing a platform for business to reach out masses and grow but it is also a source of giving true freedom of speech and power to the opinion of ordinary people.

Social media’s power has been recognised by the world. Now any content can go viral within seconds in the world through social media and it is becoming the ultimate power of social media. It can ruin one’s reputation or can make someone famous within no time.

Social media websites; Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube are being heavily consumed by large number of people in Pakistan. According to global digital report 2018, 35 million people are active users of social media, which means 18 percent population of Pakistan are social media users and among them 32 million are active social media users from their mobile devices. The most commonly used social media website on the Internet by the people of Pakistan are these six including Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Pinterest, Instagram and Google+.

The most used social media website that people of Pakistan using is Facebook as 92.06 percent of our population. It means those people having access to Internet is actively using Facebook.

While 0.4 percent population are YouTube users and 0.1 percent population are Twitter users in Pakistan.

The stats indicate the social media usage among people in Pakistan. A global digital report has revealed active social media users in Pakistan grew by 5.7 percent by January 2019.

Regardless of the fact that social media is a powerful medium for people in so many aspects, it can be dangerous for them too.
