PM calls for speedy work on FATA merger

Prime Minister Imran Khan on Friday said that all measures would be taken for progress and uplift of tribal areas.

He was chairing a meeting of Task Force on FATA, which was attended by Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Governor Shah Farman, Chief Minister Mahmood Khan, Defence Minister Pervez Khattak, Religious Affairs Minister Noor-ul-Haq Qadri, KP chief secretary, KP inspector general and senior representatives from FATA Secretariat and the Pakistan Army.

The prime minister called for speedy work for FATA merger in terms of administrative, legal, local bodies and development.

He said that all institutions were required to work in unison to achieve the single objective of socio-economic welfare of the people of FATA.

The prime minister urged the task force that there should be no delay in the process of FATA merger.

The prime minister also director the provincial government to ensure timely completion of all ongoing projects, including the Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) and Swat Motorway, in a transparent manner.

He gave this directive during a meeting with members of provincial cabinet.

The prime minister, who was on his maiden visit to the provincial capital after taking oath of office, also called for early constitution of hospital boards in the health sector and completion of administrative reforms in the province.

He took the provincial cabinet members into confidence about local government system.

The prime minister said the provincial government should come forward with full support for Pakistan Cleanliness Drive. He said the provincial government should also take a strict action against encroachments.

The prime minister assured all possible cooperation from the federal government to the province in the interest of KP people.
