Pakistan football has received a major boost after the national team was invited to participate in the inaugural FIFA ASEAN Cup, marking a significant milestone for the country’s presence on the international football stage.
According to sources, FIFA extended an official invitation to Pakistan for the tournament, and the Pakistan Football Federation has confirmed the national team’s participation.
The tournament is scheduled to take place in Indonesia from September 21 to October 6. Pakistan will compete in Division One alongside several established Asian football nations, including India, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand, while hosts Indonesia will also feature in the competition.
Football officials view the invitation as a landmark achievement for Pakistan, as it will be the first time the national team participates in a FIFA-backed tournament outside the traditional framework of World Cup and Asian Cup qualification competitions.
Sources familiar with the development said that efforts by PFF President Mohsin Gilani and his engagement with FIFA officials played a key role in securing Pakistan’s inclusion in the event.
