Trump declared fit for office after medical check-up

Published on: May 30, 2026 10:44 AM

Trump Declares Himself in Good Health After Physical Exam at Walter Reed - The New York Times

US President Donald Trump has been declared in excellent health and fully capable of carrying out his presidential duties following a routine medical examination, according to a report released by his physician.

The three-page medical memo, issued by US Navy Captain Sean Barbabella, followed Trump’s latest health assessment conducted at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center earlier this week. The report concluded that the 79-year-old president remains physically and mentally fit to serve as commander-in-chief.

“President Trump remains in excellent health, demonstrating strong cardiac, pulmonary, neurological, and overall physical function,” Barbabella wrote. The physician added that Trump is “fully fit to carry out all duties of the Commander-in-Chief and Head of State.”

While the assessment was largely positive, the report included recommendations aimed at improving long-term health. These included dietary guidance, increased physical activity, continued weight loss, and the use of a low-dose aspirin regimen for cardiovascular prevention.

According to the report, Trump currently takes three medications, including two for cholesterol management and aspirin for heart health. The examination found his cardiac function to be normal, while neurological evaluations showed no signs of cognitive impairment, depression, or anxiety.

The memo also addressed recent public speculation regarding the president’s health. It noted that mild bruising on his hands is consistent with frequent handshaking combined with aspirin use and described slight swelling in his lower legs as improved compared to the previous year.

Trump’s weight was recorded at 238 pounds (108 kilograms), an increase from his last publicly released annual medical examination in 2025. His physician advised continued efforts to reduce weight as part of preventive healthcare measures.

The report did not provide additional details regarding a skin treatment Trump reportedly received earlier this year or mention any new MRI examinations.

Following the release of the findings, Trump said on his Truth Social platform that the medical evaluation had gone “perfectly,” expressing confidence in the results.

The latest assessment marks Trump’s third medical examination since returning to office and comes amid ongoing public interest in the health of the oldest serving US president.
