US Vice President JD Vance expressed optimism about ongoing negotiations with Iran in Switzerland and said he hopes additional progress will be achieved in the coming hours. He praised Pakistan’s diplomatic efforts and highlighted its contribution to creating an environment that enabled dialogue between the concerned parties.
Speaking alongside Pakistani and Qatari leaders, Vance commended Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for their roles in supporting peace efforts. He described Pakistan’s engagement during the nearly four-month conflict as constructive and said its mediation had received recognition from the international community.
Vance noted that he remained in close contact with Field Marshal Munir throughout the crisis and acknowledged his role in promoting regional stability. He added that Pakistan’s leadership helped maintain diplomatic momentum and encouraged stakeholders to pursue negotiations instead of further escalation.
Discussing the talks with Iran, the US vice president said the technical-level negotiations provide a historic opportunity for both sides to engage directly. He stressed that while every disagreement may not be resolved immediately, the discussions create a foundation for future understanding and practical cooperation.
Moreover, Vance reaffirmed Washington’s commitment to peace in the Middle East and expressed hope that Iran would play a positive role in advancing regional stability. He also referred to ongoing concerns in Lebanon, where efforts continue to preserve a fragile ceasefire and reduce tensions.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif described the negotiations as an important opportunity for global peace and credited diplomatic leadership for making the talks possible. Meanwhile, Qatar’s Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani also praised the contributions of Pakistan’s leadership, emphasizing the importance of continued cooperation to strengthen peace and stability across the region.
