
The National Disaster Management Authority has issued a nationwide weather alert, warning that heavy rainfall, thunderstorms, strong winds and dust storms may affect multiple regions over the next 12 to 24 hours. Authorities have also cautioned about the risk of urban flooding, flash floods and landslides in several vulnerable areas.
According to the National Emergencies Operation Centre, the expected weather pattern aligns with seasonal forecasts issued months earlier. The NDMA said it has continuously shared risk assessments and early warnings with federal, provincial and district administrations to strengthen preparedness and support timely emergency response efforts.
Punjab, Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Balochistan and parts of Sindh are expected to receive rainfall of varying intensity. Major cities and districts including Rawalpindi, Lahore, Faisalabad, Peshawar, Swat, Gilgit, Muzaffarabad, Karachi and Sukkur may experience thunderstorms, gusty winds and periods of heavy rain.
Meanwhile, authorities have issued a separate warning regarding Glacial Lake Outburst Floods in Gilgit-Baltistan, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Azad Kashmir. Officials fear that sudden releases of glacial water could trigger flash floods, landslides and debris flows in mountainous regions already exposed to weather-related hazards.
The NDMA stated that district administrations and emergency agencies are closely monitoring vulnerable locations and have been directed to remain on high alert. Rescue teams have also been instructed to maintain readiness and ensure rapid response capabilities in case weather conditions deteriorate unexpectedly.
Furthermore, tourists and travellers have been advised to avoid unnecessary journeys during intense rainfall and remain informed about weather updates before visiting northern areas. Authorities warned that flooding, landslides and debris accumulation could cause temporary road closures, while citizens have been urged to follow official advisories and precautionary measures.
