Shehbaz Sharif to hold key meetings with Chinese leadership in Beijing

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is scheduled to spend a busy day in Beijing today as part of his official visit to China, with multiple high-level meetings planned with Chinese leadership, according to official sources.

The prime minister is expected to meet Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang, along with other senior officials, as both countries continue discussions on strengthening bilateral cooperation and expanding economic ties.

Upon arrival at the Great Hall of the People, PM Shehbaz will be accorded a formal guard of honour, where he will be received by Chinese Premier Li Qiang. The meetings will include both one-on-one interactions and delegation-level talks between the two sides.

During the visit, Pakistan and China are also expected to exchange memorandums of understanding (MoUs) and agreements aimed at enhancing cooperation in multiple sectors, including trade, investment, and infrastructure development. Officials have indicated that agreements worth over $7 billion between Pakistani and Chinese companies are expected to be signed during the visit.

The prime minister will also attend a ceremony marking the exchange of agreements and MoUs, reflecting ongoing efforts to deepen economic and strategic collaboration between the two countries.

In addition to official meetings, PM Shehbaz is scheduled to visit Tiananmen Square, where he will lay a floral wreath at the Monument to the People’s Heroes as a mark of respect.

He is also expected to meet leading Chinese investors and chief executive officers of major companies to explore opportunities for further investment in Pakistan.

The visit comes as Pakistan and China celebrate the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations. Both sides are expected to participate in commemorative events highlighting decades of friendship and cooperation.

Officials say the engagements reflect Pakistan’s continued focus on strengthening economic diplomacy and expanding strategic partnerships with China at a time of evolving regional and global developments.
