Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif Meets Chinese Premier Li Qiang in Beijing - The Pakistan Times

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Monday held high-level talks with Chinese Premier Li Qiang at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing as part of his ongoing official visit to China aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation.

The prime minister was accorded a formal guard of honour upon his arrival at the historic venue, where he was accompanied by a senior Pakistani delegation including Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Asim Munir, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar, Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, and other cabinet members.

During the meeting, both sides discussed a range of issues related to bilateral relations, economic cooperation, and regional developments. PM Shehbaz thanked the Chinese leadership for what he described as a “very warm invitation” and expressed appreciation for China’s continued development and progress.

He said Pakistan and China were celebrating 75 years of diplomatic ties and emphasized that the relationship had grown stronger over time based on mutual trust and shared interests. The prime minister noted that successive leaderships in both countries had contributed to building a strong foundation for cooperation.

Shehbaz Sharif also highlighted the importance of ongoing global and regional developments, saying the world was facing a “critical moment” amid various geopolitical tensions. He referred to Pakistan’s diplomatic engagement efforts in regional conflicts and expressed hope for continued peace and stability.

Chinese Premier Li Qiang welcomed the Pakistani delegation and reiterated China’s commitment to its longstanding partnership with Pakistan, particularly in areas of trade, infrastructure, and economic development under broader regional cooperation frameworks.

The visit is part of Pakistan’s broader diplomatic outreach to strengthen economic ties, attract investment, and deepen strategic cooperation with China.

Officials accompanying the prime minister said the discussions also focused on enhancing collaboration in energy, connectivity, and industrial development, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to further strengthening the China-Pakistan partnership.
