Diplomatic sources said that senior Pakistani civil and military officials were also present during the meeting. These included Federal Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi, Adviser to the National Security Division Lt Gen (retd) Asim Malik, and the Director General of Military Intelligence. Their participation underscored the strategic nature of the discussions.
On the Iranian side, the delegation included Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Kazem Gharibabadi, Iran’s Ambassador to Pakistan Reza Amiri-Moghadam, and Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei. Their presence highlighted the importance Tehran is placing on the visit and ongoing regional consultations.
Araghchi arrived in Islamabad earlier this week with a small delegation as part of a regional diplomatic tour. During his stay, he is scheduled to hold additional meetings with Pakistan’s civilian leadership, including Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, to discuss bilateral relations and regional stability.
The visit comes at a time when Pakistan is actively engaged in diplomatic efforts aimed at easing tensions in the wider region and facilitating dialogue between key stakeholders. Officials have said that discussions are expected to focus on security cooperation, border stability, and ongoing regional conflicts that continue to affect neighbouring countries.
