PM Shehbaz Sharif highlights unity role of 1973 Constitution on Constitution Day

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday said the Constitution of Pakistan 1973 stands as a shining symbol of federal unity and national cohesion, as the country marked Constitution Day with renewed commitment to democratic values.

In his message on the occasion, the prime minister said the nation celebrates the adoption of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan with a spirit of unity and pride. He paid tribute to the framers of the Constitution for their historic role in laying the foundation of a democratic and parliamentary system in the country.

Sharif described the Constitution as a sacred contract between the state and its citizens, outlining their fundamental rights and responsibilities. He said the document not only provides a legal and administrative framework but also reflects the collective aspirations of the people of Pakistan.

Referring to April 10, 1973, when the Constitution was unanimously adopted, the prime minister noted that it established a parliamentary democratic system and ensured the protection of fundamental human rights for all citizens. He reiterated that the Constitution remains a cornerstone of the federation and a guiding force for national unity.

The premier further said that all federating units are actively contributing to national harmony and economic development. He expressed confidence that the provinces and state institutions are working with dedication towards a brighter and more prosperous future.

Highlighting Pakistan’s progress, Sharif said the country continues its journey towards development and stability with dignity among nations. He added that the people of Pakistan remain grateful for the blessings bestowed upon them and are determined to uphold the Constitution in letter and spirit.
