Mansehra police set up cell to monitor social media

Authorities in have initiated disciplinary action against 15 police personnel, including three women officers, for posting videos on TikTok and other social media platforms while in uniform and on duty. The move comes as part of a broader effort to enforce professional conduct within the force.

According to police spokesperson Mohammad Sohail, all identified personnel have been directed to report to police lines from their respective stations. He stated that disciplinary proceedings have already been launched, and the individuals will face punishment under relevant legal provisions upon completion of the inquiry.

The action was taken on the directives of Inspector General of Police Zulfiqar Hameed, who had previously issued strict warnings against the misuse of social media during duty hours. Officials said that repeated instructions had been given to personnel across the district to refrain from uploading content while in uniform, particularly during official duties.

A show-cause notice issued to the officers highlighted that such behavior was considered irresponsible and damaging to the reputation of the police department. It further noted that engaging in inappropriate social media activities undermines public trust and goes against professional standards expected of law enforcement personnel.

To strengthen oversight, the police department’s social media monitoring cell has been actively tracking platforms such as TikTok, Facebook, and YouTube to identify similar violations. Authorities have granted the accused personnel seven days to submit their responses as part of the ongoing inquiry process.

In a related measure, the department has imposed a ban on the use of smartphones during duty hours to prevent further incidents.

Separately, development activity in the region continues as the Harneel Bassikhel road project was inaugurated in Torghar district. Funded with Rs70 million, the road is expected to improve connectivity for local residents. Officials also confirmed that work is ongoing on the Kotkay central bridge over the Indus River, a major infrastructure initiative aimed at enhancing regional development.
