Punjab to Buy 25 New VIP Security Vehicles Worth Over Rs270mn

LAHORE — The Punjab government has approved the purchase of new vehicles to enhance the security and convenience of VIP across the province. According to sources, a total of 32 vehicles will be procured at an estimated cost of Rs 52.35 crore.

The planned fleet includes 20 Toyota Fortuner Sigma 4×4 vehicles worth Rs 37.27 crore and 12 Hilux 4×4 vehicles allocated Rs 11.26 crore. These vehicles will be equipped with advanced security features such as night vision, thermal cameras, and other state-of-the-art protective systems to ensure VIP safety.

While the Finance Department had raised objections regarding the luxury nature of the Fortuner vehicles, the Chief Minister approved the procurement based on recommendations from the Transport Wing. Once acquired, the vehicles will be maintained and operated under the Motor Transport Wing.

This initiative comes amid ongoing efforts to strengthen VIP security in Lahore. A few months ago, the government had decided to increase the number of CCTV cameras at key locations to monitor critical areas more effectively. The Home Department has already submitted a summary to the cabinet, requesting Rs 1.63 crore for the CCTV project, which will include all necessary equipment to modernize the surveillance system.

According to officials, the Security Division in Lahore has begun preparations for the installation of these cameras at strategic locations. Together with the new vehicles, these measures aim to create a more secure environment for high-profile officials visiting the province.

The government emphasizes that both the vehicles and the CCTV upgrades are part of a broader plan to strengthen public safety infrastructure while ensuring VIP protection remains efficient and technologically advanced.
